Maslinica - Island of Solta

Maslinica is the western-most point of the island of Solta. Looking out form the town there is a beautiful view of 7 little islands that can leave no one indifferent (Polebnjak, Saskinja, Balkun, Kamik, Rudula, Grmej, Stipanska). The coast nearby Maslenica is divided into bays with small gravel beaches (Tepli Bok, Soskova, Poganica, Vela Luka). The real value of this place is that you can find around every corner a small solitary bay for bathing, and the special experience is bathing on the small islands around Maslenica. This lovely town offers an ideal condition for a peaceful family holiday. Ferryboats and ships are not connected with Maslinica so that the line with Split is held through Rogac. The bay also offers a secure anchorage for yachts, because it is protected on all sides from the winds and the waves. Maslenica came to be in 1703 when the noble family Marchi seeked approval for establishing a new settlement and for building a castle with protective towers in order to defend the place from pirate attacks. Part of the castle has now been transformed into an attractive and well-known restaurant "Conte Alberti". Other historical sites can be found on the island of Stipanska, where there are ruins of an old Christian basilica.
